Pasquerilla East Hall: Chapel of St. Catherine of Siena

“They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks”
Isaiah 2

Our Scripture quote for today comes from the prophet Isaiah, as he imagines the glorious future the Messiah will bring. In this new Messianic golden age, there will be peace and harmony between the children of Israel and the nations that surround them. Jerusalem will be a witness to the great goodness of God, a light that all nations will be drawn to and, through it, will be converted to peace.

Today, we visit the Chapel of Catherine of Siena in Pasquerilla East Hall. Catherine of Siena was an influential Dominican who lived in the fourteenth century, during a time of great turmoil and disharmony in the divided Catholic Church. Catherine, a great saint and scholar, called upon Church leaders to seek peace.

As we pray in this space dedicated to St. Catherine, let us ask: how is God calling us today to convert the swords of division in our lives into instruments of peace?
