Old College: Chapel of the Holy Family

“Jacob [was] the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah.” (Matthew 1)

Today, our Advent journey brings us to the oldest chapel on campus—the chapel of the Holy Family in Old College, the undergraduate seminary for the Congregation of Holy Cross.

Today’s Gospel charts the development of Christ’s family through generations. This genealogy follows not just the thread of biological generation, but also the flame of faith being passed down from generation to generation, all the way from Adam and Eve to Joseph and Mary.

Just as the family of Joseph passed on their faith from generation to generation, so, too do our families. And so the men of Holy Cross pass on their mission of faith to new members here at Old College.

As we remember the Holy Family here in this chapel let us call to mind: who in our families—those in our biological families and the families of faith we have found—do we have to thank for passing on the faith to us?

  4. I wish there was more video time for seeing the chapel instead of looking at the Advent candles.

  5. In thinking about those who have influenced the development of my faith, certainly my mother and father, and the priests of my parish, but my son has had a great part in restoring my faith and showing me the beauty of prayer, devotion, and service.

  6. Thank you, Keenan.
One of the biggest influences on my faith life was my grandfather, ND Class of 1924.
