McGlinn Hall: Chapel of St. Brigid of Kildare

“Shout for joy, O daughter Zion!” (Zephaniah 3)

This third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday, that is, a Sunday of rejoicing. Thus, the special rose candle signals our joy in Christ’s coming.

This Sunday, our Advent pilgrimage takes us to McGlinn Hall, whose chapel is dedicated to St. Brigid of Kildare. Brigid of Kildare is a particularly important saint to the Irish people. Like St. Patrick, Brigid was one of the first saints to evangelize Ireland.

As we reflect on our own lives, we see that we are brought to a knowledge of God’s saving presence in our midst through others. It is the presence of others like Brigid who show us that God is with us, and who truly cause us to rejoice.

As we spend some time in prayer here in the chapel of St. Brigid, let us call to mind those people in our lives who bring us the joy of the Gospel. Who are those people in our lives who demonstrate that God is in our midst and cause us to shout with joy?

  1. Christina: your commentary was well done. You have a wonderful chapel which I am sure is visited often.
I have a junior living in McGlinn as well- Bridget Ralph. I am sure you know her.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Suzanne Milon
