Fisher Hall: Chapel of St. Paul

“I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it.” (Philippians 1)

On this second Sunday of Advent, halfway through our Advent journey, we begin our reflection in the Chapel of St. Paul in Fisher Hall.

In this reading from the letter to the Philippians, Paul greets this community of Christians. Paul writes this letter while in prison, but he writes that the Philippians’ faith, which flourishes even in his absence, is a great source of rejoicing for him. Although he wishes he were with them, he is confident that it is not his work, but the work of Christ that will continue to bear fruit in their community.

Advent, as a season of anticipation, is about staying alert to the work that God is doing in us and staying attentive to the work that is being done in us. Living faith does not remain stagnant, but must be continually cultivated.

How can we be vigilant this Advent, so that the good work being done in us during this season of anticipation is brought to completion in Christ so that our faith and love can grow more and more each day?
