Amanda Muhr

Junior Amanda Muhr discovers unexpected blessings and enduring friendships on the “Holy Hike,” illustrating the profound impact of companionship and finding God during her college years at Holy Cross and Notre Dame.

“I never expected to be at Holy Cross or to be regularly making the Holy Hike, but the experience taught me to look for God in places you wouldn’t necessarily expect. My time at Holy Cross and the miles I logged on the Holy Hike both proved to be absolute blessings for me, even though I hadn’t been planning on them. They also showed me the difference people can make by being willing to be there for one another — like Brad and Joseph were there for me. I carry that second lesson forward into my daily life at Notre Dame, especially in my current role as a Campus Ministry Anchor Intern.

“During Advent, we hear the familiar story of the nativity, but can forget that the months before Christ’s birth were full of many unexpected obstacles. In rising to meet these challenges together, Mary and Joseph opened their hearts — and ours — to receive the incredible gift of the Lord’s birth in the lowly stable of Bethlehem.”

  6. The Holy Hike is a new phrase for me that I intend to use. Thank You Holy Cross students for this. I AM now pondering How I can/may have more Conscious Holy Hikes. I now remember the partial “Holy Hikes” to St. Mary’s. Peace and Wisdom to Each of us.d

  8. The video of your Holy Hike, Amanda, and your reflections on the trip, brought a real memory of hikes from Grace Hall to The Rock for 8am swim class in the winter !

Campus walks are for all of we day dreamers … who think about what is possible.

Best wishes on your continued hikes in life, and always ask for help along the way. Those in the ND community, and so many more, are there to help throughout life.

  10. Thank you for sharing. It was good to remember that great spiritual events are almost always preceded by very challenging personal obstacles- even for the Jesus’ mom and dad.
Our current life difficulties may be leading to significant spiritual changes – that is encouraging. Thanks.
