Christian Gray
A mother’s faith is everything. For junior Christian Gray, a starting cornerback from St. Louis raised by a single mom, it was what got him all the way to Notre Dame Stadium:
“When it came time to choose a college, I had 27 offers. LSU, USC, others—but my mom said, ‘Your calling is Notre Dame.’ I didn’t believe her at first. Then, on my official visit to ND, something changed. In a moment of vulnerability, surrounded by coaches and staff who truly listened, I felt God stirring within me when someone said, ‘Your story is here.’
“Faith brought me here. My mother’s prayers, along with my grandmother’s and my sister’s prayers, are still guiding me every day through the ups and the downs, every win and every loss.
“In this season of preparation and family traditions, we are reminded that our faith doesn’t begin or end with us. It’s handed down—generation to generation. My mom planted it in me. Now, it’s my turn to keep it growing. As we wait in hope this Advent, how do we carry that faith forward in our own lives to hand down to the next generation?”

What a wonderful reflection Christian. I had a very similar experience when interviewing way back when and became a member of one of the first women classes. Enjoy the many blessings of being at ND and may God keep you safe.

Christian,
God Love You good man! I was humbled by your faith and trust in God. I would love to meet your Mom one day and thank her for her faith as well as the fine job of raising you. I thank God for YOU. You are God’s Beloved Son Christian and stay strong on the inside good man so that all the noise on the outside stays there.
I promise you daily I will hold you in my prayer and Masses.
In Christ,
Fr Jim Bracke csc
What a beautiful story! Notre Dame is blessed to have you!
Christian’s sacred story is so relatable. I thank God so many times for giving me a mother who instilled a strong Faith in us. Now that she has passed on to be with the Lord, we still have the best gift a mother could ever give faith and strong family ties. We are cradle Catholics and I attended Catholic and Parochial schools from 1-12!graded and made all the sacraments. Now as a widow I am very aware that God is my source, in Jesus name. Amen
Great story.. I hope the Catholic Church gets together with other denominations to help this scary world.
Amen
What a gift your mom gave you….and here you are passing it on. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your faith, and your faith in action on the field, Christian. Like you. My mom modeled and instilled faith in God in me from birth, a gift we share. May blessings cover you and your loved ones in all of life’s seasons. God…Country…Notre Dame .
Great family story. You have had a most interesting career with lots of ups and downs. But you are always around the football and that is a good thing. And you call to mind the Japanese proverb – fall down seven times get up Eight times!! Merry Christmas to you and family!!
Thank you for sharing your story. God indeed has a plan for our lives. As a momma who loves Jesus, I just had no idea where that path would lead, but also knew as soon as my freshman stepped on campus that his story was there in that place and in that moment. After his first visit, he knew that he was indeed home and this would be the place where he would learn, grow and continue to walk the path God for him. Thank God for our moms who believe in us, pray for us and trust God with the rest. You are wonderful example of walking in purpose and may Gods blessings be with you and your family this Advent season. Go Irish.

Christian, remarkable presentation. Lean on your faith, and those who have helped guide you. Great things will happen to you, your sincerity and humbleness shine through. Expect some rough times as suffering is part your faith, but you have the drive and perseverence to carry yourself ever forward. If the waters become turbulent, always lean on the Lady on the gold dome. Peace be with you.
