Merry Christmas

Notre Dame Alumni Association Executive Director Dolly Duffy ’84 closes out our Advent series and shares our warmest wishes for a blessed Christmas season.

As we welcome the birth of Christ this Christmas morning, I want to thank you for joining us throughout the Advent season for Sacred Stories of Notre Dame. These reflections have touched our hearts, brought tears of joy and hope to our eyes, and given us the opportunity to slow down each day during this busy season.

When I was growing up, my Grandpa Duffy used to say that the older he got, every time he turned around it was Christmas. But for me, as a child, it always felt like an eternity of waiting — mostly for presents. As we’ve navigated this Advent season, we’ve been both waiting and preparing to celebrate much greater gift — that Jesus came to offer salvation to the world. As we conclude this third year of our Sacred Stories, let us each renew our commitment to courageously carry the authenticity of God’s mission and the light of divine purpose into this glorious Christmas Day and beyond.

  5. I am so grateful for the Sacred Stories of Notre Dame. It just hit me that this is the end of the Stories until next year. Notre Dame is an incredible place. It is absolutely the people who make it so special. It will always be a place that welcomes so many of us back where we feel the embrace of Our Lady of the Lake Our Mother.

    Merry Christmas!

  12. Thank you. You were all illuminations of God’s Love through Advent and are Witnesses to Hope for me and my family. I did not have the privilege of attending ND but my Son, Granddaughter and Grandson are Domers. I am old and pray constantly for Hope and Peace in this world.
Knowing you are all out there fulfilling God’s mission and each of you are unique people with Divine purpose, brings me JOY. Your words were so powerful… Merry Christmas!

  21. Many times I have reflected on John Boehner’s remarks at ND’s 2016 tge need to find common ground. I am 85 and in my lifetime the clergy of all faiths coming together and pass Civil Rights for Black persons is a great lesson.

  31. I am not an alum of Notre Dame. However, my story begins there. My father, from Massachusetts, met my mother at Notre Dame in 1949. She was working as a secretary while my father was working on his PHD in philosophy. He would find excuses to stop in the office where she worked to spend time with her and finally asking her out. The fell in love quickly and were married shortly thereafter. Upon graduation he had hoped to get a teacher position at Notre Dame; staying close to my mother’s family. That was not to be and he took a job at another Catholic University (north of Notre Dame in Milwaukee, WI) planning to move back as soon as a position became available. That, too was not to be. He spent his entire career at Marquette University as, together, they raised 12 children.
My husband and I stumbled across Faith ND many years ago and it brings us inspiration and joy as we read the daily reflections. I truly believe my parents’ love story is a Sacred Story.
Wishing you a very Blessed Christmas Season

  36. Sacred stories is the most amazing Advent calendar I’ve ever received. (Even better than the delicious See’s candy ones from my daughter.) I can’t wait for next year’s edition. Thank you so much for my daily reminder of what is truly important during the four weeks leading up to Christmas.
