Dr. Mary Hannon ’02 & Dr. Michael Hannon ’02
Always look out for signs. A chance encounter in a tiny church changed alumni Dr. Mary Hannon ’02 and Dr. Michael Hannon ’02 forever. While vacationing in the Cayman Islands, they attended Mass and met Dr. Peter Daly ’82 and his wife, Lulu Romano Daly ’82 SMC, who were serving the poor in Honduras through what is now One World Surgery. The Hannons and their children have volunteered on missions with the group ever since.
“In 2014, we made our first trip. That week forever changed our lives. Since then, we have returned every summer, bringing our children and introducing countless Notre Dame students and alumni to this work. Together, we have witnessed lives transformed—our patients’, our volunteers’, and our own.”
During this season of waiting and hope, let us consider where God is inviting us to notice the unexpected “small signs”—a word, a meeting, a coincidence—that may open the door to a greater mission of love and service.

We are people of Hope so as we wait again where do we find Hope?
It is like St. Teresa of Avila “The Little Flower” said-
“Do small things with great love”.
I am reminded of this when I question am I doing enough or question my impact. I tell myself if I did it with great love, then I did my best.
Actually it was St. Therese of Lisieux who made that statement, the “Little Flower” in God’s garden, but St. Teresa of Avila is a Doctor of the Church which is definitely noteworthy!
So inspiring. May the gifts of faith , hope and love be with us as all of you ate. May the good you do shine through in every trip you make to help others❤️God bless you 🙏❣️

This is an amazing story and brought tears to my eyes – what great role models you are to your kids – Go Irish!
I love these stories of love and service! Thank you.
There are so many life-changing events –and the grace to witness them for others–
Now that is truly Gods hand at work. Loved your story and am inspired by both of you. Wishing you and your family an abundance of Gods graces this Christmas Season.

Peace be with you. And…GO IRISH!
Wonderful story – thank you for sharing.
I wonder if the mission ever needed a general surgeon? Would be blessed to help.

Looks like they do!
You are truly an inspiration and role model.
Loved hearing about a ministry done as a couple. We are a worldwide marriage encounter couple and had a meaningful dialogue about our feelings hearing this story. Thank you.
WOW, Thank you for your service to the people. God Bless you….Go IRISH!!!!
Mari and Michael,
Thank you for your beautiful story which made my eyes well with tears. I’m a general volunteer with our primary care medical mission team from St Norbert parish in Paoli PA. The Daly’s have brought healing and hope to thousands through their surgery center. And we volunteers grow in our understanding of what it means to be part of the human family. Our deacon travels with us so as a group, we have daily opportunities to pray and reflect together in the beautiful little chapel in the volunteer center. What a blessing!
YESTERDAY IN THE COMENT I MADE I SAID I WAS THE CLASS OF 87′ WHICH IS A TYPING ERROR, I SHOULD HAVE TYPED CALLS ON 67′ WHICH IS MY CORECT GRADUATING CLASS
PLEASE AMEND YOUR RECORDS
THANK YOU

We can lose a lot in our life time but we should never lose HOPE. God works in mysterious ways ways like he did with these families.
