Eve Kelly
Realizing the truth behind a cherished Notre Dame frame in Eve Kelly’s family history revealed a tale of faith and the enduring legacy of sacrifice.
My grandpa was a person of deep faith. Even as he was battling cancer, he never fell into despair. He saw suffering as a gift, allowing him to be utterly open to the offering of Christ’s sacrifice. When both my grandparents passed away, there was not much in the way of a material inheritance, but they did leave us a deep faith, love of family and community, and the conviction that the sacrifices endured for the love of others are the most worth making.
“Notre Dame is a sacred place for many families. For mine, it always represented hope for the future, and isn’t that what this season of Advent truly is? A time of preparation and hope that the sacrifices we make today for the ones we love will one day bear fruit in ways unimaginable.”
Eve, love you and your family. As i listen to all these stories I realize the impact of this school on so many.
This is what love is..
Wow. What an amazing story. You fulfilled your grandfather’s dream.
Love, legacy, and transformation…such a beautiful
story that resonates…your Grandfather is mine too. Thank you for the chance to remember this inspirational man.
“A time of preparation and hope that the sacrifices we make today for the ones we love will one day bear fruit in ways unimaginable.” At the moment, I AM Trusting that the challenges/pain of the Present and recent years IS making way for “unimaginable” Gifts and Joy with Peace.
Today’s video allows me to remember my Parents and my 13 younger siblings they Sacrificed for and Loved. I Thank EveryOne who is making this Specific Advent Journey with me.
I read the gospel, saint and prayers!
Notre Dame was for my family too a hope for a different future. Thank you for a reminder of the power of gentle memories.
The love and devotion of the ND subway alumni always amazes me. Congratulations to your grandfather.
What an amazing man!!
Another great video! Thank you, Eve!
“The hope that the sacrifice we make today for the ones we love will bear fruit in ways unimaginable!” …this line is the essence of who we are as parents and human beings. So well said Mrs. Kelly! A great story. Thank you for sharing.
This is such a wonderful tribute to my father. A man who always welcomed any one to our dinner table that needed a meal. A heart as big as they get. I miss him everyday. A man that made everyone of his 15 children feel like they were the “favorite”
What a beautiful tribute to your amazing grandfather & family, Eve! You’re so right… ND has many special stories. Yours touches me deeply. TY for sharing it. Betsy Mohan Kain ‘73
A beautiful story of parents sacrificing their all for their children’s future. Our Dad was not given the opportunity of going to school, our Mom went for three years until her father learned. She was told you need to help clean and cook.
Our parents shared we will give you an education, teach and show you Faith. These two things no one can take away.
Their Faith in God continues as we share their story with our children and all seeking a better life.
Eve, love hearing about your grandfather. He sounded like an amazing man. Thanks for sharing!
Dear Eve,
Thanks for the gift of your story and for reminding me that we all arrive at where we are on the shoulders of great and humble people.
Thanks for sharing your story
Evie, I was just thinking about uncle Karl today before I saw your message. And it’s true… He kept his poise in his deepest pain, even until his last moment. And even though he trembled, his handshake was firm. That was the last time I saw him.🙏
Thank you for your moving & spiritual story & all the wonderful and important work you are doing. God bless🎋🍀
Beautiful Eve…have a wonderful holiday season!
Great story. Thank you for sharing. God bless!

I’d love to sit with and share stories over a couple cold ones…and so do you.
