Judy Hutchinson

A series of health problems sent Notre Dame International’s Judy Hutchinson on a journey that revealed the unexpected ways God orchestrates our lives.

During my recovery, I was able to receive the care that I needed not only with family by my side but with my Notre Dame work colleagues who supported me in every possible way. Barely able to move post-surgery, I watched them unpack my boxes arriving from London. They cleaned my home, did my laundry, and brought me food. They ran errands and picked up prescriptions. I felt both humbled and grateful. When we talk about Notre Dame being a family, it is in times of crisis that we see this the most.

“During Advent, it’s easy for us to see God orchestrating his perfect will through the lives of saints like Mary and Joseph, but we rarely get to see how God is working in our own lives. While I cannot honestly say I enjoyed this season of my life, I received the gift of that perspective. Now, I look back on that time with tremendous gratitude and awe, confident that God, through my family, friends, and Notre Dame colleagues, was with me through every moment.”

  6. “Attributing it to God’s Merciful Grace and not to Luck…..” Judy’s Experiences of God’s Graces coming through the Actions of Other has me Powerfully reflecting and Pondering on How Other’s Action are Graces Seen and UnSeen for me. Thank You Judy for sharing your Grace Filled story. May I “see” How Grace shows up in My Life. Amen.

  12. Judy, you found the right question: not, “why is this happening to me?”. But “how is God standing by me in the midst of this?”. And you found the answer: it was in the love and care from others – including your ND family. Thanks for sharing your story. As St JPII often encouraged, “Don’t waste your suffering.”
