Dr. Angela Logan

From shy church speeches to teaching at Notre Dame, Dr. Angela Logan reflects on the power of investing in young lives.

“Today, I always chuckle at my mother’s persistence and now see how it helped build my confidence that would lead to future success in high school, college, and my career. My mother believed in me even when I could not quite believe in myself, and I now try to pass this along when teaching at the Mendoza College of Business and preaching at my local church. I still feel the butterflies, but I always remember that my mother had confidence in me then and is cheering wildly for me from Heaven now.

“In Advent, we are invited to hear the voices that proclaim who the coming savior will be. How are we listening to those voices, allowing them to inspire us, and taking up the charge to be a person of influence and support to the next generation?”

  1. This is very powerful cause when I didn’t believe in myself my mom did. It helped me become the man that I am today.
So thank you for passing that on. It’s really gonna help those in need.

  4. As a child and young adult, I am reminded of how shy and introverted I once was. My parents were instrumental in providing opportunities for me to grow as a confident young woman. Dr Logan’s reflection hits home to me.

  6. “Becoming the Person I once needed.” This phrase spoken today is one I shall ponder all day and beyond. What does Little David still Need? I am wondering how to become the person I once needed, and probably still need. The Stories we tell ourselves can change. May mine change.
I also wonder how the business school is so much different than the one I experienced when classes were held in what was the Hayes Healy Building.
I remember taking a tour of campus with a cousin who was considering attending Notre Dame over 10 years ago, the student tour guide did not know what was in the building as we walked by what I knew as the Hayes Healy Building…my business school.

  7. This really touched me.
I lost my mum in July, the day before my birthday… no matter how how many times my life went wrong, how I strayed, how I messed up my mum was alway ready to get me back on my feet back on track .
She never stopped believing in me; she became my greatest friend,my spiritual director and my true sister in Christ …and I know that’s she’s still believing in me …always .
    Miss you Mum.

  11. Thank you for your reflection. Near the end, you mentioned the work “influence”. During Advent at my parish church, our theme is “Who are your influencers?” This theme has given me something to really reflect on.
Again, thank you for you wonderful words of reflection.
