Christian Quilon

Notre Dame senior Christian Quilon reflects on the joy of being a sponsor, witnessing 16 students courageously deepen their faith through the sacrament of baptism.

“In the Bible, St. Paul talks about how all Christians are buried into death with Christ through baptism so that we may also be raised with him to new life. One by one, as the 16 students came forward to receive the sacrament of baptism, I was overcome with joy. I knew each of them by name, and now it was the Lord calling each of them by those same names and into his heart. It was at this moment that I understood the tremendous gift of baptism and what it does to a person: they become a new creation in Christ!

“Just as my friends spent many months preparing for such a momentous day, we spend the Advent season preparing for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. And it was this first coming that would set into motion the events of Christ’s life that would change the world for all of us. How blessed we are to receive this gift into our hearts once again!”

  6. My husband played football for ND ‘66-‘’’69, Larry Schumacher. I am always so proud to say my husband had two degree from ND. He had a close relationship with Fr. Hesburg and Ara Parsegian and dined with them annually when he attended the Homecoming games. This year I took our two oldest grandsons to a ND game (Wake Forest) so they could see where their grandfather’s character and faith was cemented in his character. It was very cathartic for me because it had been 50 years since I had been on campus and I knew I loved him more at that moment than I did the day we married. I thank ND for reaching out to me now and then as his widow. ND is that kind of family.
