Basilica of the Sacred Heart: Lady Chapel
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” (Matthew 1)
Our joy this Christmas season comes from Emmanuel—from God with us. These chapels that we have journeyed through together this Advent are reminders to us here at Notre Dame that God-is-with-us. In the midst of a busy day or a hectic semester, each chapel provides sacred space to remember that God is here, in our chapels, in our communities, in one another.
Our beautiful Lady Chapel, which celebrates Mary our mother, is a most appropriate place to complete our pilgrimage, so we invite you to take a few moments to ponder the miracle of God’s great gift to us of Emmanuel. May you continue to feel the presence of “God with us” throughout the Christmas season. From all of us at the Notre Dame Alumni Association, we wish you a very blessed and merry Christmas.

Thank you for the journey through the Notre Dame chapels on my journey through Advent! You provided intentional and purposeful opportunities to reflect on our living faith in a daily basis. I enjoyed meeting the presenters, actual people engaged in living their faith. I also appreciated learning more about the scope of education programs that Notre Dame provides.
