Sorin Hall: Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.” (Matthew 9)
In the Gospel today, we read an encounter between Christ and the two blind men. Jesus heals the two men, telling them: “let it be done for you according to your faith.”
Today, we visit the chapel of Sorin Hall, the men’s residence hall named in honor of the founder of the University of Notre Dame, Fr. Edward Sorin. Fr. Sorin arrived at this spot in Indiana in 1842 and saw nothing other than a lake. But he believed that God could do great things, believed, indeed, that he could build a school that would be a powerful force for good. Fr. Sorin trusted in God’s ability to bring great fruit out of what appeared to be absolutely nothing.
The faith of Fr. Sorin and the two blind men should prompt us to ask how God could be working in our lives. What great things does God want to do with us and through us today?
Thank you Ben, for representing our wonderful city of Ft. Collins, Colorado there at Notre Dame. These mini devotionals are truly inspiring and thought provoking.
I was the Ra in Sorin hall my Senior year 60 -61 and chapel is still my favorite chapel when I on campus. Barry
I lived in a ground-floor triple. #115, that does not exist any more. I spent Christmas there, too, but that is another story.
When I returned in 2004 during football season —first time back — I went to 232 Zahm, because it is now a female domicile I could not visit 302 Howard: I definitely saw what was left of 1154 Sorin and could not catch anyone at 343 Alumni.
Sorin was my best year in every way.

I never knew that the Sorin chapel was dedicated to St. Thomas Aquinas. Fitting, at a university with great Thomistic tradition. It would have been appropriate — even in such a brief video — to show an image of Thomas in the chapel (assuming that there is one).
Dear Joe,
Thanks so much for watching the video and commenting! Surprisingly, there is currently no image of St. Thomas in the Sorin Hall Chapel, and there is no record of an image of St. Thomas being located in the chapel since its dedication in the 1890’s in the current wing of Sorin Hall. We, too, wish there were an image for us to feature, but it seems that St. Thomas is sort of flying under the radar as the Sorin chapel patron! We hope you continue to enjoy the Advent videos.
Warmly,
