Samantha Meyer

How do you handle doubt about your life’s path? When her application to Notre Dame didn’t go exactly as planned, Sammi Meyer doubted her calling to South Bend. Then, she came across a long-lost bookmark that reminded her to trust in the plans God has for her.

“As I leafed through the book, I was surprised to find a bookmark with an image of the Golden Dome still there all those years later. I took it as a sign that Notre Dame still had a place in my story, and at that moment, I felt a deep calling to trust in God’s plan — whatever it may have been. In March of 2021, I received notice of my admission and accepted the offer with true joy.”

As we celebrate the season of Advent, we are often reminded of the anticipation and preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ. This anticipation beautifully mirrors how we plan for and hope for our futures. No matter where I end up after graduation, I know that calling Notre Dame home for the past three and a half years has been a blessing that I once thought impossible. Sometimes, it just takes an open, trusting heart to see God working in our lives. If we remain open, we can be blessed in indescribable ways.

  8. Thank you, Samantha, for sharing your sacred story. As a Class of ’94 alum, a former Howard Hall resident and a Mom to a current freshman (Class of’28), your story resonates in many ways. Each of us faces doubt and uncertainty throughout our lives — and, in an impatient world, it is ever-challenging to remain hopeful, trusting in God’s plan for us. Learning to be still, to listen, to see the ways He is present and actively working in our lives — trusting in His love — this is where we find joy.

Merry Christmas and many continued blessings to you, Samantha.

Thank you FaithND and to the Notre Dame family for sharing each of these beautiful Sacred Stories. I find so much inspiration and look forward to them each Advent season. GO IRISH!
