Ron Metoyer
Others’ silent sacrifices often make the biggest difference in our lives — even when we don’t realize it at the time.
The time and talent adults in Ron Metoyer’s life invested in him during his teen years expanded his future trajectory. Now, as Vice President and Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning at Notre Dame, he works to give students that same advantage.
“At Notre Dame, I strive to support students like myself. Mentorship, both for students and younger professionals, has become a central part of my work because I know how much small acts of support can mean. And I’m not alone — every day, I see our faculty giving students the encouragement they need through gestures that may seem minor but make an incredible difference in the lives of our young people.”
As we enter Advent, I reflect on how even the smallest acts can change lives. Think of the innkeeper who offered Mary and Joseph his stable. How many other innkeepers may have had a stable but thought it wasn’t enough to share? Just as that humble offer had a lasting impact, I believe small gifts of time, guidance, or kindness can change the course of someone’s story.
So True. Thank you Ron

Terrific story, Ron. My mentor while going through Navy flight training waaay back in the day always used to stress, “pay attention to the little details.” Your experience is a perfect extension of that concept. The saying “God works in mysterious ways”, though often seeming a little cliched, rings true most often in small, quiet situations. Thanks so much for sharing this inspiring tale.
Thank you Ron. Your beautiful story reminds me of the sacrifices people made for me while I was a student and the little acts of support my teachers gave me. I am so grateful
Thank you, Ron. This Story of yours is so true of our family. I am your cousin…
your Dad’s First Cousin and I can relate to all you have said.
Kim, very kindly, forwarded your message to me. I so like the reference to the Innkeeper.
Thank you for all you are and are doing for All at Notre Dame. I am proud of you,
God bless you and all dear to you. Love, Sister Mary Leonita Metoyer (Sister of Mercy)
Ron, great story, parents always want the best for their children -your parents did so much for you, and that led to a wonderful future.. Merry Christmas Ron. 🍀🎄
My parents sacrificed a lot for me to be able to attend Notre Dame. They are hard working people who always instilled in me the importance of education. I recently found bills from the university sent to my parents from the 1980s, and I know it was not easy for my parents, even with my scholarships and work study. But they never showed distress or lamented their choice to support my going so far away from home for college. It is one of the greatest gifts they have given me. I don’t know if they will ever truly know how much their quiet sacrifices meant for my life. I will always be grateful to them.
This video meant so much to us Ron!
We are lucky to have a son who not only shows his appreciation in such a thoughtful way, but also gives back to others. We are so proud of who you are and all that you do.
This is such a beautiful story Ron.
My sister, Kim, shared this with me and i am so happy she did. May our dear Lord continue to bless you, as you continue to bless others with your time and talents and treasures.
Merry Christmas and much Love to you and all the family.
