Chris Kavanagh

As the youngest of six kids, family and teamwork are everything to men’s lacrosse captain Chris Kavanagh. He followed in his older brothers’ footsteps to Notre Dame, and it was their family he looked for in the crowd as he and his brother Pat led the Fighting Irish to win the first two national championships in Notre Dame’s history.

“When we won our second national championship this spring, my brother Pat was the first person I looked for. It was our last game together at Notre Dame, and we made it count. Our family was in the stands. As much as I wanted to share that moment with my teammates, I wanted to share it with my family just as much. Without them constantly pushing me, I would not be in my current position. My success is their success.”

During Advent, we reflect on the long and challenging journey Mary and Joseph undertook on their trip to Bethlehem, traveling on dusty, crowded roads and searching door to door for a place to stay. Yet despite these struggles, they ultimately found rest in one another and the joy of their new family. Their story reveals what is true for all of us — that with hard work and the love of those closest to us, we can achieve the most meaningful outcomes.
