Lizbeth Cordova Lopez

One conversation can shift your entire perspective. For senior Lizbeth Cordova Lopez, a member of Campus Ministry helped her reframe the guilt she felt about her faith into the understanding that seeking God authentically and consistently is what really matters, no matter where or how that happens for you.

“Conversations like the one I had with Becky and others in Campus Ministry remind me that prayer is not about comparison or competition. While some may highlight the frequency of attending Mass or praying the rosary, I have learned that true prayer is about authentically and consistently seeking God in ways that deepen one’s faith, regardless of where we may find ourselves.

“In Advent, we remember that the Holy Family was drawn into circumstances that disrupted their routines—their familiar rhythms of prayer, reflection, and daily life were stretched in unexpected ways. I imagine that, like us, they may have faced moments of guilt, comparison, or uncertainty as they navigated what God was asking of them. Yet in those very disruptions, they discovered God’s call in their lives. Their openness—expressed not only in spoken prayer, but in trust and obedience to the extraordinary events unfolding around them—brought them closer to God and to one another. Where might our own imperfect efforts, offered honestly, do the same?”

    • Thankyou Lisbeth, I am touched by your honesty and authenticity and the support and humanity you found in Becky. It’s so true that we need to connect with Jesus and his Mother personally, in our own way, without the weight of guilt or expectation regarding how or when we do this. I find it comforting to remember the words from a Divine Mercy prayer “confident in the immensity of Thy love” when I feel discouraged – He loves us and knows us intimately and waits for us to meet Him.
