Allison Schultz
Like many first-year students, when junior Allison Schulz started at Notre Dame, it was her first time away from her family. In the midst of her homesickness and loneliness, she found a community that felt like family, one that loved her as she was and showed her God’s love.
“I began to see that my new friends were getting to know a person that I was still getting to know — me. I remember one lunch where we laughed until our sides hurt, sharing embarrassing stories that revealed our common humanity. Inspired by our theology classes, conversations with these friends challenged my faith as we wondered together about the intricacies of being human.“
During this Advent season, we may find ourselves in unusual circumstances — maybe even far from home, surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Like the Holy Family in Bethlehem, far from their home, how can we find the place, however humble, to prepare for Christ in our hearts
Thanks for this great video that shares God’s love.
Love this! Thank you Allison.
Terrific story, Allison. So happy for you that you summoned up the internal courage and faith in Christ to ride out the initial loneliness of first time separation. Seems abundantly clear that it was worth it! Continued blessings as your journey continues…
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story of love. Blessings!!!
Love this! I too had a freshmen year either years and loneliness. And you’re right – friends and courage and faith makes it possible to overcome.
