Stanford Hall sophomore Frankie Machado explores what it means to grapple with one’s personal relationship with God through the life of a saint.
“But in Sister Ann’s class, we began reading The Confessions by Saint Augustine. Unenthusiastic to start, I couldn’t help but keep reading. Augustine’s quest to know God became enthralling. And with each class, Sister Ann carefully dissected the depth of Augustine’s words with great care. Her joy for the text gave me joy. Amid everything I was going through, my heart was filled with a peace from God that I had never experienced before.”
As we pray through the Advent season, who are those saints and mentors that have guided our feet during difficult times and encouraged us to journey on?

Thank you for sharing your story, Frankie! That experience of peace will stay with you for the rest of your life and will be a guiding point when seas are rough. Always go back to it. Hi Frankie. Thank you for sharing your sacred story. It reminds me how good our God is. He continually places people and life experiences within our lives during difficult times in order to sustain us and help us grow in relationship with Him. Hang in there Frankie. There may be a new drug on the horizon that could help your father with his Alzheimer’s. We can only hope. My sister-in-law has this disease and it is painful to watch. I will pray for your father’s intentions & for your family. May God be with you.

Please know that you are in my prayers, Frankie. I am sorry that you and your family have seen such tragic events but at the same time know that our dear Lord will guide you with your Faith.
All of this reminds me of how are heart, words and behavior affect others both known and often unknown to us. Thank You.
I will keep you and your father in my prayers. My Mom had Alzheimer’s and although it was a very difficult experience for my Mom & family to go through I felt it was Gods way of allowing my brothers and sisters to now care for her as she had done for each of us when we were at our vulnerable stages of life. Stay close to the saints as they will continue to strengthen and intercede for your enttfamily at this time.
